Turkey’s Transport and Infrastructure Minister, Abdulkadir Uraloglu, has announced that the Metro line connecting Istanbul Airport to Arnavutkoy has transported 4.2 million passengers since first opening one year ago.
Uraloglu noted that the Istanbul Airport – Arnavutkoy section of the Gayrettepe – Istanbul Airport – Arnavutkoy Metro was first put into service one year ago as part of a planned extension Metro lines in Istanbul.
He said: “We have extended the length of the Metro lines we have built and put into operation across Istanbul to 161.8 kilometres. This line alone has carried 4.2 million passengers in the past year.”
Speaking about new transportation projects, Uraloglu went on to say: “We have completed and opened numerous urban rail system lines for Istanbul residents, including the Marmaray, the Gebze-Halkali suburban line, the Gayrettepe – Kagithane – Istanbul Airport Metro, and the Istanbul Airport – Arnavutkoy section.”
Construction work is still ongoing on several new transportation routes including the Halkali – Arnavutkoy section of the Halkali – Istanbul Airport Line and the Altunizade – Camlica Mosque – Bosna Boulevard Metro.
Since opening, the Arnavutkoy – Istanbul Airport Metro line has reduced overall travel time between the Airport and Arnavutkoy to just eight minutes. The line stops are four stations: Arnavutkoy, Tasoluk, Cargo Istanbul, and Istanbul Airport.
Uraloglu noted that the line has played a crucial role in improving the speed of transport within the city. Arnavutkoy and Tasoluk stations were first opened on March 19, 2024, while Cargo Istanbul and Istanbul Airport stations opened on January 22, 2023.
Uraloglu finished by saying that since the full opening of the Gayrettepe – Istanbul Airport – Arnavutkoy Metro line, 17.2 million total passengers have been transported, proving to be a remarkable success for the line. The line also set a new record on February 19 of this year after carrying 37,843 passengers in one day.
