Turkish Airlines passenger traffic continues to increase

Turkey’s national flag carrier, Turkish Airlines, has announced that it carried a total of 6.77 million passengers during the month of January 2025. According to data, this is an increase of 8.2 percent compared with the same month in 2024.

 

Domestic and International passenger traffic grows

In a filing with Borsa Istanbul, the airline announced that it carried 6.77 million passengers in January, of which 4.47 million were international passengers and 2.3 million were domestic passengers. This is a 4.9 percent increase in domestic passengers and a 10 percent increase in international passengers when compared to January 2024.

The flag carrier also said that average passenger load factor improved from 80.3 percent in January 2024 to 82.4 percent in January 2025. Passenger load factors for international routes improved to 82.3 percent, while domestic routes improved to 83.5 percent.

 

New destinations and increasing fleet

Turkish Airlines stated that its fleet had grown from 440 airplanes to 477 airplanes in order to meet the growing demand of routes and destinations. The total number of destinations that the airline flew to also increased from 340 in January 2024 to 352 in January 2025.

Seat capacity also saw a significant increase year-over-year with a 9.5 percent boost to 98,364 seats in January 2025. Recently the airline announced plans to launch new direct flights to Auckland, Charlotte, Damascus, Minneapolis, Orlando, and Philadelphia.

 

82.5 million total passengers in 2024

Data showed that in 2024, 82.5 million total passengers travelled on a Turkish Airlines airplane. This is up by 2.1 percent compared to 2023, with the airline expecting that to further increase in 2025.

Of that, 54.6 million passengers were travelling on international flights, while 30.6 million were on domestic flights. This was an annual 2.9 percent increase for international travellers and a 0.7 percent increase for domestic travellers.
