Tourist data released shows that between the period of January to October 2024, a total of 583,063 people booked hot air balloon rides over Turkey’s famous Cappadocia region – which is a new record.
A UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the prime tourist destinations of Turkey, Cappadocia is renowned for its natural beauty, historical significance, chimneys, cave hotels, and hot air balloon rides, all making it one of the most visited places in the country.
During 182 days of favourable weather between the period of January – October 2024, more than 583,000 tourists booked and enjoyed balloon rides trips over the Cappadocia region of Turkey, an increase of 74,882 over the previous record of 508,181, which was recorded in the same period of 2022. In 2023, 473,396 people took to the skies in Cappadocia during the same time period.
The Head of a Local Balloon Tour Service said: “In the nine months in Cappadocia, more than 580,000 domestic and international visitors participated in balloon tours. When we compare this data, we see that we’ve reached the highest numbers.”
Looking towards the rest of the year, the expert said: “I believe we will surpass the annual target of 700,000 passengers that we’ve aimed for over the years in Cappadocia. We will set new goals and break new records.”
A pilot who operates balloon tours daily followed up by saying: “Balloon flights have been taking place in our region for many years, and interest continues to grow each year. We welcome guests from all over the world. This year, there has been more interest compared to previous years.”
Established as the world’s hub for hot air ballooning, Cappadocia draws visitors from every corner of the world to experience its incredible landscapes from the sky. From its iconic fairy chimneys, cave hotels, and beautiful sunrises, Cappadocia is a firm favourite on the bucket list of travellers.
The peak ballooning season in the region runs from April to October with weather conditions being optimal for smooth flights, incredible photos, and views. With such popularity and continued record breaking numbers almost yearly, early booking is recommended.
